Control Variable: - Egg Dependent Variable: - Time: 48 hours for each solution to have a turn in having the egg placed in it. - Mass: Egg's original mass: 60 grams Egg's mass in vinegar: 85 grams Egg's mass in syrup: 60 grams Egg's mass in tap water: 95 grams - Size: Egg's original size: Length - 5 cm Width - 4.5 cm Egg's size in vinegar: Length - 6 cm Width - 5 cm Egg's size in syrup: Length - 5.3 cm Width - 3 cm Egg's size in tap water: Length - 5.3 cm Width - 5 cm - Amount of each Solution: - 3/4 cup Independent Variable: - White vinegar - Syrup - Tap water Aim: To determine why the egg changes in size and weight when placed in three different types of liquid solutions. Hypothesis:The naked egg when placed in tap water solution, will go back to it's original size and weight. But will change in weight and size when placed in syrup solution and vinegar solution.r Equipment: - ruler - a small clear jar container - a measuring cup - a small kitchen scale Ingredients: - 1 egg - 3/4 cup of vinegar - 3/4 cup of syrup - 3/4 cup of tap water Method: 1. Collect all the equipment and ingredients needed for the experiment. 2. Draw a small results table to record the experiments results. 3. Weigh the mass of the egg in grams using the small kitchen scale and record it in the results table. 4. Measure the egg's length and width in centimeters and record it in the results table. 5. Place the egg in the small clear container and fill it up with 3/4 cup of vinegar. 6. Now place the experiment in a firm place where it cannot be touched or knocked over by anybody else for 48 hours. 7. After the egg has been placed in the vinegar solution for 48 hours, take the egg out and wash it gently. Make sure the vinegar solution has been washed out of the small clear jar. 8. Repeat steps 3 and 4 after washing the egg gently. 9. Repeat step 5 but this time filling the jar up with syrup solution. 10. Repeat step 6. 11. Repeat step 7. Making sure the syrup solution has been washed out of the jar. 12. Repeat steps 3 and 4 after washing the egg gently. 13. Repeat step 5 but this time filling the jar up with tap water solution. 14. Repeat step 6. 15. Repeat step 7. Making sure the tap water solution has been washed out of the jar. 16. Repeat steps 3 and 4 after washing the egg gently.
